Obstetrics and Gynecology

This deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Presented below is a bar chart representation of cases recorded from the year 2017 – 2021 in the Buea and Limbe Regional Hospitals in Cameroon.

The chart above represents the number of recorded women registered in the regional hospitals who were admitted to the unit of Obstetrics and gynecology. The data collected shows an ever-increasing number of women requiring this service with about a 31% increase in Buea between 2017-2021 and a 42% increase in Limbe within the same period.

Infant/Neonatal mortality rate

One of the Sustainable Development Goals 3.2 states as follows: “End preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age by 2030”, with countries aiming to reduce its occurrence. All attempts to solve this major public health issue have yielded progress except for sub-Saharan countries Cameroon inclusive where it is lstill a major challenge. As per the data collected from the regional delegation for public health in Buea, 143 babies died in 2020 and 222 babies in 2021 signifying an increase instead of an expectant decrease
